Set on large blocks of land with extensive car-parking and pavements, each store occupies a grand footprint with areas for retail including white goods and hardware, timber trades, garden and lifestyle, café, and administration. Structerre was commissioned to perform Geotechnical, Civil and Structural Engineering services including design, documentation and construction phase support. Of high importance to the client was the sanctity of the retail space corridors and minimization of obstructions such as columns.
Structerre improved on structural designs adopted in Australia’s Eastern States by introducing a roof system which comprised a regular grid of rafters / trusses supported on transfer trusses. The system allowed flexibility in column locations whilst maximizing steel efficiency and hence reducing material costs. In addition to structural design and documentation, Structerre performed geotechnical assessments and designed / documented earthworks, external pavements, drainage systems and retaining walls for the 12,000 sqm plus sites.
